The Jacksons

Meet the Jacksons, Barbara and Art (Jack)

We are real Florida Crackers! We both were born and raised in Florida. We both grew up in Lakeland and graduated from Lakeland High School.  The love of the earth and the growing process started early.

Art graduated from UF Forest Ranger School, Lake City, Florida in 1962. He went on to work for U.S. Forest S.E. Experiment station in Macon, Ga. After working in research in forest lands and trees for 5 years, he decided to pursue another career.   It would take a few years to come back to his first love, the land.

When we married in 1967 we lived in strawberry country in Valrico, Florida for 7 years.  After 30 years of moving and working with IBM, we returned to Florida to spend the “best” of our years.  Over the years we have always been drawn to the joy of planting and growing. We have left a trail of trees from Florida to Texas and Georgia.

It is a joy to now have the time and resources to pursue our passions; serving God, planting, growing, photography, fishing in Alaska and of course our two grandkids, Emily and Logan.  We now live on the farm in a Crackerstyle log home that we built in 2007.  Our home is made with Cypress logs. Together we made the commitment to plant and grow Cypress trees to replace the ones that were used.

The log home package was bought just up the  road in Williston, Fl from “Bubba” Howell.  Check out his website at Crackerstyle Log Homes.

This was quite an adventure! We bought the property in 2000 and starting building the house in July 2006. It only took 10 months to complete. Jack did all of the electric, plumbing, finish trim, floors, ceilings, setting cabinets, building all of the enterior doors. We love it!

Bubba used one of my pictures on his billboard.  This is mile marker 390 on I-75 south, just north of Gainesville, Florida.  I don’t think that Bubba ever paid me for the picture!

You know, your cracker style home reminds me of the old Jackson home on Ross Creek Rd near Kathleen. Takes me back and I used to cute thru that dirt road walking to my friends house way back in those woods. Wish I could bring those days back for a spell!!!!

Thank you Carolyn, I remember the old Jackson place well. Maggie and “Ander” Jackson lived there and farmed in “Ander’s” healthy times. I even shot a few squirrels out of their oak hammock. Thanks for your comments.
